Abstract

In today's framework of great power competition, Europe is highly interconnected with the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific Area. Both the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific have nuclear proliferation risks and fierce great-power rivalries. But China's core interests remain in the Indo-Pacific, which dictates that its response to the risks of nuclear proliferation there should be different. China needs to deeply consider the strategic value of the current Iran Nuclear Deal for China, the long-term impact of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East on China, and the linkage of European-Indo-Pacific and Middle East security issues to determine China's attitude and overall strategy on this issue.
