【Abstract】

The internationalization of digital renminbi consists of three parts: "international of RMB", "de-dollarization" and "the emergence of central bank digital currency international settlement system". This report analyzes the internationalization of digital RMB from the relationship among the three components. We believe that the rise of the central bank digital currency international settlement system is the inevitable result of the international demand for "de-dollarization" and technological development, and also creates an opportunity for China to reduce its dependence on the US dollar financial system and promote RMB internationalization. In this regard, China can respond and advance at three levels: the foundation is to participate in promoting the emergence of the world's central bank digital currency international settlement system; beyond that, China should strategically select partners to strengthen the position of the digital RMB in the new system; and ultimately, to achieve China's financial security and related strategic goals.
